Cecret Dam Rehabilitation

Alta · Salt Lake County · 2024

VanCon poured a new concrete dam directly behind the face of the existing historic Cecret Lake dam — effectively replacing the structure without demolishing the original dam face. The high-alpine site at Alta was accessed through the ski slopes, adding logistical complexity to material delivery and the concrete pour.

Carbon WCD Scofield Dam Outlet Modifications

Scofield · Carbon County · 2017

VanCon rehabilitated and modified the existing Scofield Dam by replacing the concrete crib wall, retaining wall, zone backfill material, and embankments. The top of the outlet and concrete spillway were redesigned and replaced with new concrete. The outlet floor and the walkway across the spillway were redesigned and replaced. VanCon designed and installed concrete slabs to address water spray from the outlet as well as a pedestrian access to the upstream staff gauge in the reservoir basin. Rock was removed from behind the existing rock slope wire mesh and the mesh was repaired at the top with rebar supports.

CUWCD Swenson Dam Modification

Springville · Utah County · 2023

VanCon replaced an existing dam in Hobble Creek running through Springville City with a 4-foot-wide radial gate, a 24-foot-wide overshot gate, a 31-foot-wide concrete channel grade control structure with measuring flume spanning the creek, and an ultrasonic meter. The water had to be diverted through a pipe during construction so native fish could thrive.
