Alpine Storm Drain
Alpine · Utah County · 2013
After the fires in the Alpine Loop in 2012, VanCon was hired to work on flood mitigation. VanCon deepened a detention basin, lined it with riprap, fabric, and grout, and added a box to reduce the force of the floodwater. When an abnormally strong storm washed out the lining during construction, Alpine City, the Division of Natural Resources, Bowen Collins & Associates, and VanCon collaborated on more robust stormwater mitigation: installing an apron around the box exit, digging and lining a new channel below the detention basin with riprap, adding minor ponds to manage large influxes of floodwater, and upgrading the city storm drain. The storm drain upgrade included a new 108-inch storm drain, 111 feet of 18-inch RCP, 1,821 feet of 36-inch RCP, 825 feet of 48-inch RCP, and 400 feet of 60-inch RCP in Alpine Blvd and public and residential right-of-ways, boxes and manholes, curb inlet boxes, 18-inch RCP laterals, and concrete curb and gutter repair.

West Valley Pole Line Storm Drain
West Valley City · Salt Lake County · 2017
This project installed 5,000 linear feet of 15 to 48-inch RCP storm drain pipe (less than 200 linear feet of the pipeline was the smaller 15-inch) with a box culvert and other drainage structures. Work was completed in a busy commercial area requiring roadway reconstruction in public right-of-way, utility coordination, and exterior improvement restoration. Public relations were coordinated weekly through notices and schedule updates.
